our story
In the heart of Texas, where live music and community tradition run deep, three Schulenburg locals - Cale Kobza, Chip Bubela & Colton Bubela - came together with a shared vision: Make our ancestors proud and help our hometown community thrive. Bringing life back to a Historic Landmark of a bygone era.

THE RESERECTION OF A TEXAS TREASURE…
The historic Freyburg Hall, originally built by The Sons of Hermann in 1912, had long been a cornerstone of local culture. Generations had gathered under its wooden beams for polka dances, family reunions, weddings and rodeo celebrations, it embodied the rich German-Czech heritage of Fayette County. But like many rural landmarks, time and neglect had begun to take their toll. By the late 2000s, the dancehall had fallen into disrepair—its floorboards creaked with age, and the stage sat silent.

Cale Kobza grew up near the hall and his parents still live just down the road. With a background in agriculture and land management, Cale had a vision for preserving local history while giving it a fresh spark. Chip Bubela, and Colton Bubela — two brothers, who also grew up in Schulenburg. Two local businessmen, both very active in the community and lifelong champions of all things Schulenburg. — shared that same passion. Make our ancestors proud. All three had danced in the hall, grown up around its stories, and understood what it meant to generations of local families.

In 2022, the trio joined forces to purchase and restore Freyburg Hall. What followed was a labor-intensive, heart-driven restoration that respected the building’s original bones while updating it for modern use. From preserving its hand-hewn woodwork to upgrading electrical and sound systems, every decision balanced history with hospitality.

They kept Freyburg Hall’s historic charm intact: the hardwood dance floor (installed by the Grandparent’s of GM Elizabeth Fox) still shines with the patina of a thousand boots, and the old stage remains a focal point. But now, it’s paired with a professional-grade sound system, climate control, and modern amenities that make it ideal for today’s concerts, private events, and trying to bring some of the old traditions like Hootenanny, Maifest, and Harvest Fest back to life.
the Next Step: Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow
Since reopening, Freyburg Hall has quickly regained its place as one of Central Texas’s most beloved venues. Under Cale, Chip, and Colton’s care, the hall has hosted everything from live country music and community dinners to weddings and heritage events. While also helping with fundraiser events for local charities. Their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed—they’ve been praised by local leaders, preservationists, and proud Freyburg families alike.

More than just a restoration project, their work represents a deep respect for tradition and a bold belief in rural revitalization. As Colton Bubela puts it:
"We didn’t want to change the soul of the place—just remind people it’s still beating."

Thanks to these three men, Freyburg Hall isn’t just standing - it’s thriving, full of life, music, and memories yet to be made.

history of the hall
In 1892 members of the Schulenburg Order of the Hermann Sons who lived in Freyburg community established Kaiser Friedrich Lodge No.48. They met in the homes of the lodge officers since they had no hall. It took 20 years to save enough money to build the spacious hall, which was completed in 1912.
The hall was built with the intent of providing "Gemutelichkeit" Hospitality, feeling of well-being)
Our goal as a Team from the owners down to all of our employee's is to restore history and bring this same feeling back "Gemutelichkeit" to Freyburg Hall.
